About Me

Hi, I'm Gema, the potter behind MiaZoi Ceramics. I work from my small home studio in the heart of Bedford town. The back of my kitchen has literally been transformed to a shoebox ceramics studio, proving that when love and dedication is there, art and creativity can pop up in the most unexpected places!

The main focus of my body of work is functional ceramics, handcrafted tableware and other pieces meant to be part of your day to day life. I love making pots that feel good in your hands and lift your spirits when you use them. My goal is to create not just a mug to drink off but a mug that you hold and feel, a mug that becomes part of your everyday little rituals.

My favourite things to make are mugs and teapots. In a contemporary style with a touch of rustic my pieces feel earthy and wholesome. This style is reflected in the rest of my collection, bowls, bottles, jugs, etc...

My pottery journey, although not planned, it was meant to be. Without a formal education in the ceramic arts I have always felt an affinity to pottery. Initially, as an avid pottery collector, my scientific career as a researcher gave me the chance to work and travel in many different countries where I will always be on the look for new pottery pieces to add to my collection. It wasn’t until 2019 when my passion for this craft made me swap the laboratory bench for the potter’s wheel and dedicate myself to the world of ceramics.

My work is inspired by nature and I believe ceramics not only should be made to be used and be part of our everyday lives but they are an integral part of a move towards a more sustainable way of living and help us connect back to the earth that gave birth to them.
