Carved Mug, Sgrafitto (black or white lines)

Wheel-thrown coffee or tea mug/cup. Made of grey stoneware clay and partially glazed in satin black and clear.
The soft round shape of the bottom of the mug makes it a joy to hold and with its generous size...The perfect cuddle mug ;)

I have used a technique called sgraffito to surface decorate these mugs. Firstly, the whole surface is painted with a coloured slip (liquid clay), either black or white in this case, and then the surface is "scratched" to reveal the natural colour of the clay. This created a striking contrast of colour and pattern in the surface, which feels lovely to the touch and looks great.

* Oven, dishwasher and microwave-safe. I recommend hand-wash handmade stoneware in general.
* All glazes are food safe (lead-free).
* As with all ceramic cook-dinnerware, please avoid subjecting the pieces to extreme thermal shock. Sudden transfer from hot to cold temperatures and vice versa can cause damage (cracking) to the piece.
* Ceramic pieces will get hot when heated or if containing just boiled liquids (especially the ones made with black clay) so please be careful when handling them.
* Since all my pieces are handmade, no two items are exactly alike but I do make sure the pictures show them as realistically as possible.
